Katrina Reef & Ship Island, Mississippi 08-30-08 06:00 AM ( about 6 hours )
Had the pleasure to guide noted outdoor writer/photographer of Mississippi Outdoors on a beautiful morning of fishing in south Mississippi. Accompaning David was his wife and daughter, and this was to be a laid back family outing.
Our first stop was the Katrina Reef where they proceeded to catch 30 or so nice white trout and ground mullet, as well as a big bat ray that was eventually released after a 30 minute battle.
However, the desire to catch their first Florida pompano was to much to resist, and soon we were on our way to the gin-clear waters of Ship Island. Once there, bouncing in a 2-foot sea in less than 2-feet of water, David immediately hooked up, and landed his first Florida pompano.
Soon his wife and daughter followed up with a nice pompano of their own. In between bites plenty of big ladyfish, bluefish, and juvenile cobia added to the light tackle fish catching fun. In the end, 6 really nice pompano were deposited in the ice chest. With weather threatening it was back to the Palace Casino Marina to let off my guest.
Just another beautiful day of fishing in our big backyard playground called south Mississippi.

Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
