Specks, Reds & Flounders Delight Anglers

Mississippi Sound & Katrina Reef, Mississippi 09-09-08 06:00 AM ( about 2 hours )

Today was my first charter since the passage of Hurricane Gustav, and it was good to be back on south Mississippi's waters.

My clients were Jessie Smith and Tracy Sepulvado of Texas, and they had never salt water fished before.

We managed to find a good pod of baitfish washed out of the Back Bay of Biloxi by all of the storm's rainfall, and there the two Texans managed to catch a nice mess of fish. Specks, reds, and flounders could be seen erupting through the helpless baitfish at times.

Tossing soft-plastics suspended under popping corks and Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows, the anglers landed 5 redfish, 4 big speckled trout, and 2 flounders. After that bite ceased due to increasing wins, a run to the Katrina Reef delivered 35 or so white trout and ground mullet to wrap up the morning.

A decent day considering the inshore waters were still a bit muddied up. From now through October we can expect some of the best fishing of the season, so be sure to look up TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS if you make it down here to the Golden Gulf Coast. No, we haven't been blown away, and we're open for business as usual.

Capt. Robert L. Brodie of TEAM BRODIE CHARTERS
